Terms of Service

Last updated

These terms govern your use of this website, which is operated by Charanek Taxes & Accounting from Calgary, Alberta. Using the site means accepting them.

They do not govern professional work. That is set out in a written engagement letter, agreed before any work begins, and where the two documents differ on anything to do with an engagement, the engagement letter governs.

Using the site does not make you a client

Reading these pages, submitting a form or exchanging preliminary emails does not create a professional relationship. That relationship begins when an engagement letter has been agreed by both sides — not before.

Until then, nothing said in correspondence should be treated as advice on your situation, and nothing you send is covered by the confidentiality that attaches to client work. Please keep initial enquiries general, and see the privacy policy on what not to send through the forms here.

Nothing on this site is advice

Everything published here — articles, service descriptions, fee information — is general information about how tax and bookkeeping work in Canada. It is not tax, accounting, financial or legal advice, it is not a substitute for advice, and it takes no account of your circumstances.

Tax legislation, CRA administrative positions and filing deadlines change, and an article accurate when written may not stay that way. There is no undertaking to keep this site current. Do not act on anything here without advice on your own facts.

What this practice does and does not do

Charanek Taxes & Accounting provides personal and business tax preparation and bookkeeping.

It is not a chartered professional accounting firm. No one here is a Chartered Professional Accountant, and no audit, review or compilation engagement is offered or performed. Where a matter needs a CPA, a tax lawyer or another professional, you will be told so plainly and, where possible, pointed toward one.

Fees quoted here are indicative

Fees and ranges published on this site are indications of what work of that kind usually costs. They are not an offer, not a quote, and not binding. An actual fee is confirmed in writing after the work has been scoped, and depends on the state of the records and the complexity of the return.

Forms and messages

Forms on this site are for making contact. Submitting one places no obligation on either side: it does not commit you to anything, and it does not commit this practice to taking the work on.

Please do not use this site to attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, to disrupt it, or to harvest it by automated means beyond ordinary search engine indexing.

What you are responsible for

Any advice, and any return, is only as good as what it is based on. You remain responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the records and information you provide, for keeping the underlying documents, and for meeting your own filing and payment obligations.

The site itself

This site is provided as it is. It is not guaranteed to be uninterrupted, error free, or free of anything harmful, and it may change or be withdrawn at any time.

Content on this site

The text, images and design of this site belong to Charanek Taxes & Accounting. Read it, print it, send it to whoever you like. Do not republish it as your own or use it commercially without permission. Quoting an article with attribution and a link is welcome.

Links to other websites are there for convenience. What is on them is not this practice's responsibility.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Charanek Taxes & Accounting is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published here, including indirect, incidental or consequential loss and any loss of profit, revenue or data.

Liability for professional work is dealt with in the engagement letter for that work, not here.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer protection or other legislation that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here excludes liability for fraud.

Privacy

How personal information is handled is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the laws of Canada that apply in it. The courts of Alberta have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date it changed at the top, and it applies to your use of the site from the moment it is posted.
